2007 Conference Photos

The Whole Grains Council held its third Whole Grains Conference in Kansas City on November 5-7, 2007. As our full schedule shows, key influencers attending the conference enjoyed a factory field trip, a wide range of great speakers, delicious whole grain dishes at every meal, a Whole Grains Council member meeting, a Gala Dinner and awards ceremony, and an International Workshop for overseas delegates. Here are just a few snapshots to share the flavor of this event.

Inspiring Speakers on a Range of Diverse Topics

Twenty-nine top-flight speakers shared the latest news about whole grain success stories – and about the remaining barriers to increased consumption of whole grains.

Four of our speakers are shown above, left to right:
Robert Post, PHD, Deputy Director of USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy & Promotion, who spoke on whole grain recommendations and dietary intake patterns.
Lori Tubbs, RD, Human Performance Nutritionist, Naval Special Warfare / Navy Environmental Health Center, detailing the innovative programs she has spearheaded to help the military stay "fighting fit" by eating more whole grains.
Carolyn Bess,
Food Production Manager, D2, Virginia Tech University, who earned the title of Grand Winner in our Whole Grains Challenge, by serving over two dozen whole grains choices daily.
Laura Cherry, Director of Public Relations, P.F. Chang's China Bistro, explaining how her restaurant chain served 12 million pounds of white rice in 2007 -- and a surprising 10 million pounds of brown rice.

Iron Chef Whole Grains Cook-off

We asked two of the most whole grains-savvy chefs in the nation to each create three complete dishes in just one hour – and then we sat down to eat the results for lunch. Absolutely delicious!

Stamp Power Tower!

The Whole Grain Stamp, our eye-catching black and gold packaging symbol that identifies foods containing a half-serving or more of whole grains, is now on over 1,400 products. A display showing just a tenth of these products was a vivid reminder of how very many products now use the Whole Grain Stamp.
