Life is too short to do the same thing each year, and we enjoy coming up with new and innovative ways to salute whole grains. Check out the details on our past efforts:
2019 — Whole Grains: The World Tour
We took over 3,000 followers on a culinary tour of whole grain recipes from around the world, calling it Whole Grains: The World Tour. Each day in September, followers received an email featuring a new whole grain recipe along with cooking tips and little-known facts about their favorite grains. We highlighted recipes inspired by Mediterranean, African, Latin American, and Asian cuisines, most of which were contributed by our culinary advisors and WGC members.
2018 — Whole Grain Deal of the Day
For every day in September, we featured new whole grain “Deal of the Day” discounts, coupons, and social media contests from WGC member companies who volunteered to partner with us. We also hosted an Instagram contest where participants posted pictures of whole grain foods they were eating using #SpotWholeGrains. One winner won a $500 gift card and another received a free copy of our Whole Grains Around the World menu plan book.
2017 — Good Grains for a Good Cause
In 2017 we brought back a favorite campaign from years past. Whole Grains Council members collectively donated 125 cases of whole grain food to one winning food charity nominated by you. We also introduced an online “Guess the Grains” Quiz, which has been taken more than 1,000 times already.
2016 — Spot Whole Grains Away from Home
In 2016 our efforts focused on promoting whole grain choices away from home, such as at restaurants, airports, and ball games. Participants posted their pictures to Instagram using #SpotWholeGrains, and 4 winners each won a $100 giftcard to a different restaurant serving whole grains, as well as a whole grain cookbook.
2015 – Share the Goodness of Whole Grains
Our 2015 contest theme was Share the Goodness of Whole Grains. With this campaign, our goal was to encourage people to share their favorite whole grains with others. You could bake whole grain muffins for your neighbors… bring granola bars to your kid’s soccer game… donate whole grain products to a local food pantry… or simply share a photo of your favorite whole grain food on Instagram. Participants posted their photos and captions to Instagram, and at the end of September we picked a winner to received $500 in cash and a basket of whole grain goodies.
2014 – Make the Switch to Whole Grains
In 2014 our theme was “Make the Switch.” Throughout the month, we showcased a mouthwatering group of whole grain recipes created by some of our favorite food blogger and dietitians. People across the USA checked out all the recipes and voted for their favorites. The top five recipes, according to votes, went to our final cook-off and judging on October 8. The top recipe creators received cash prizes, as did one of our voters chosen at random.
2013 – Good Grains for a Good Cause
We spotlighted the charitable efforts of WGC member companies, and invited people across the country to nominate their favorite food-related charity to receive cases and cases of whole grain foods donated by food manufacturers. We also launched a new partnership with Healthy Dining Finder to help people find whole grains in restaurants.
2012 – Deal of the Day
Throughout September, we featured a new “Deal of the Day” with special discounts and also partnered with EatingWell magazine on a recipe contest. Whole grain lovers sent us information about their favorite Whole Grain Stamp products for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. We picked two entries at random; the top winner got $5,000 of grocery money and a year’s worth of whole grain products (courtesy of Quaker) and the runner-up got an iPad (courtesy of UltraGrain/ConAgra Mills).
