The Welcome to Whole Grains brochure is ready and available now! You asked for it and you got it.
Since we started our journey in 2003, the Whole Grains Council has been hard at work advocating for whole grains. We researched, studied and published boatloads of information to post on our website. Everything you ever want to know about whole grains can be found on our website, pages and pages of it. And therein lies the problem. Folks first hear about whole grains and find themselves on our website and WHAM! It hits them – information overload!
It took several “wake up” calls like these here to understand what was needed:
“You see my doctor says I got diabetes and I need to eat the whole grains now but I don’t know how to find ‘em.” ~from a transit worker in Chicago.
“I try really hard to feed my family good foods, but my son is allergic to gluten and can’t have bread. What do I do?” ~from a mom in Colorado.
“We heard about whole grains on television being good for you. How do we know if something is whole grain?” ~from a retired couple in Florida.
Once we took a minute to stop and really listen, we heard the request. There was a need for a simple introduction to whole grains. The ideal piece would have brightly colored headings that make it easy to find what you’re looking for. It would have lots of crisp, beautiful images to inspire you to eat more whole grains. It was a tall order, but we did it! The team at Oldways and the Whole Grains Council put their heads together and found the winning combination for anyone who is getting to know whole grains, young and old alike.
Inside the brochure, you’ll find:
What Is A Whole Grain? This part explains in the simplest of terms what a whole grain is and the different parts of the grain.
Gluten-Free Doesn’t Mean Whole Grain Free. Not all grains have gluten. Learn which grains can be enjoyed by those who can’t digest gluten.
Whole Grains on Every Plate. Here you’ll see mouth-watering photographs and menu suggestions to get more whole grains on your plate.
Finding Whole Grains. This section shows you how to find whole grain products and what the Whole Grain Stamp looks like.
Whole Grains and Health. Just the facts here, a few things you should know about the nutritional benefits of whole grains.
While all of this information can be found in depth on the website, we learned an important lesson: sometimes less is more. So here it is. Print one for yourself, print some for friends and loved ones to whom you’d like to introduce whole grains. Be our guest. Download as many as you like and help us spread the good word about whole grains. (Karen)
