Okay, now we know that whole grains are really, really HOT. Urban Outfitters is – no joke! – seliing this six ounce capacity stainless-steel flask on its website. Yes, it really says “Made from WHOLE GRAINS” on it. We did not PhotoShop the words on the image here. This flask can be yours for only $18.00, if you’re still looking for a last-minute Christmas gift.

Now we also know (as if we didn’t already) why the Whole Grain Stamp is so essential. Anyone, just anyone, can put “Made from Whole Grains” on any product, even one that doesn’t have even a smidgeon of whole grains in it (yet… we’re guessing the assumption is that you’ll fill this with some adult, grain-based beverage).

Do not be deceived. If you don’t see the Whole Grain Stamp, which guarantees at least 8 grams of whole grain ingredients in every serving, someone may be putting one over on you.

Many thanks to Alison Clancy, our Social Media Manager here at Oldways and the Whole Grains Council, for finding this gem and telling us about it! (Cindy)

I've run across little give-away bottles of this in hotels a few times and have been meaning to investigate and blog about it. I presume it's the soaplike saponin removed when washing quinoa that's used to make the shampoo. There's no statement about the shampoo being whole grain, but the implication that it's good for you because it contains quinoa. Next we'll be seeing quinoa insect repellent; hey, maybe I'll try making that; it's not a bad idea since saponin is a natural insect repellent. I'd better trademark that idea right away.
