Whole Grains Month - Whole Grains Council

With August nearing its end, the Whole Grains Council is getting all geared up for our favorite month of the year: Whole Grains Month (known to some as September). Each year, our team builds our celebration around a different theme or activity and this year we’re rolling out the red carpet for one of our classiest events yet. Allow us to introduce the Grainie Awards!

Unlike other awards shows where your role is very likely one of spectator, the Grainies offer you the chance to actively participate, and perhaps even win some great prizes and accolades for your efforts. Each day in September, we’ll post a new way you can enter our competition. To follow along, you can either check our Whole Grains Month page each morning, or subscribe to our email notifications so the activities land in your inbox each day – plus we’ll send you previews of what’s coming next so you can get a jump start!

In order to earn a prize entry (or multiple entries), we’ll ask you to complete whole grain challenges such as:

  • Using whole grain pasta or bread instead of refined grain options
  • Commenting on one of our blog posts or recipes
  • Finding a product with the Whole Grain Stamp and posting a photo to social media
  • Take a whole grain quiz on social media

Each entry you earn will increase your chance of being selected to win various prizes throughout the month, including whole grain products and swag donated by our Whole Grains Council member companies. At the end of September we will pick five Grand Prize winners who will each receive a $100 check in addition to other whole grain goodies. Prize items include:

  • Rice cookers
  • Breads
  • English muffins
  • Brownie bites
  • Oatmeal cups
  • Breakfast cereals
  • Crackers
  • Intact grains, including quinoa, teff, emmer, einkorn, freekeh, and specialty rices
  • How to Be a Conscious Eater by Sophie Eagan
  • Branded hats, notebooks, tote bags, aprons, and water bottles
Examples of some of the prizes: intact grains, bread, a book

As if the health benefits and great taste of whole grains weren’t reward enough, we’re pulling out all the stops to make next month’s event something extra special. We can’t wait to see your contest entries and to cheer you on as you discover new and wonderful ways to celebrate and enjoy whole grains. Good luck and go break a (whole grain) baguette! (Caroline)
