Ingredients
½ cup old fashioned rolled oats
⅔ cup water
1 tablespoon date paste*
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
2 tablespoons raisins
1 tablespoon sliced almonds
milk, for serving (we used nonfat)
Instructions
- Pour oats into a microwave safe bowl and then evenly pour about ⅔ cup water on top.
- Microwave on high for 2 minutes (you may have to stop halfway through to stir if your oatmeal is prone to spilling over the edges of the bowl).
- After oats are done cooking, stir in the date paste and flaxseed.
- Top with raisins and almonds, and finish with a splash of milk (about ¼ cup) to get oatmeal to desired consistency.
*Date paste is made by soaking dates in water overnight (just barely covered), then blending the dates with their soaking water. Date paste is a versatile liquid sweetener, with a great depth of flavor!
