Once again a Whole Grains Council culinary advisor has won the prestigious James Beard Award for a cookbook featuring whole grains. (As the Oscars are to actors, so are the Beard awards to chefs and food writers.) Last time, it was Lorna Sass’ Whole Grains Every Day, Every Way; this time, it’s Ellie Krieger’s wonderful new book The Food You Crave: Luscious Recipes for a Healthy Life.

Ellie gives new meaning to the phrase “healthy appetite” with whole grain recipes such as Whole Wheat Pasta Salad with Walnuts and Feta Cheese, Orange-Pistachio Wild Rice Salad, Apple-Pecan Muffins, Mushroom-Barley Soup, and Bulgur Stuffed Peppers. Her recipes will convince anyone that it’s not necessary to choose between delicious and healthy — they really can co-exist.

Ellie Krieger is the WGC’s newest culinary advisor. If you haven’t yet done so, visit her website (HealthyLivingWithEllie.com) for more information about how to eat well without sacrificing the pleasures of the table. We are so glad that America’s top cookbook authors are helping everyone to learn how to enjoy whole grains.
