Whole Grain Sampling Day is the day when our participating partners all plan their own activities and promotions, and each one is diﬀerent. Below, is what’s happening on or around Wednesday, March 27, 2019, partner by partner (in alphabetical order):
Posie Brien will be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day with a special whole grain recipe post on her blog, 600 Acres.
Cordialis Msora-Kasago of African Pot Nutrition will be highlighting Whole Grain Sampling Day on her blog and through social media.
AICR will be including a discussion about the importance of whole grains in their March Enews in support of Whole Grain Sampling Day. They will also be promoting whole grains across their social media platforms that day.
For Whole Grain Sampling Day, Ammonoosuc Community Health Services will be putting out educational information and directing patients in their waiting room to the adjoining pharmacy service window to sample whole grain farro salad.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, Baylor Scott & White will host a sampling event including nutrition education for their members and guests from the community. They will also schedule a cooking and nutrition session for program members.
Belmont Dining is excited to get a jump start on Whole Grain Sampling Day at Harrington Place Dining on Tuesday, March 26. During the lunch hour we will feature multiple whole grain menu items, as well as an educational table with samples.

Boise State University will celebrate Whole Grain Sampling Day with food samples, nutrition information, giveaways, and interactive games. They will also be highlighting all the existing whole grain dishes on their dining hall menus.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, BC Dining plans to highlight whole grains through special menu items, tastings, and marketing campaigns to raise awareness of their prevalence on campus and how to incorporate them into a daily diet. The BC Dining team plans to post on social media and advertise in person to direct students to where they can ﬁnd whole grains on campus.
The Boston Public Market will be getting a head start on Whole Grain Sampling Day, hosting local chef Jason Bond of Bondir Restaurant in Cambridge for an evening bread baking workshop on Monday, March 11. The menu will feature two, from-scratch loaves highlighting the amazing taste of whole grain ingredients. Caroline Sluyter, of the Oldways Whole Grains Council, will provide a short introduction to the class, oﬀering a brief overview of the health beneﬁts and traditional uses of whole grains in cuisines around the world.
Boston University will get an early start on their Whole Grain Sampling Day celebration on Tuesday, March 26th, hosting a tabling event where students can look forward to talking with Registered Dietitians and Nutrition Ambassadors about the beneﬁts of whole grains and where to ﬁnd whole grains on campus. Students will also be invited to participte in taste-testing a whole grain recipe and there will be free whole grain samples available.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, Cambridge School of Culinary Arts will be hosting an evening seminar featuring local cookbook author, Maria Speck, who will be talking about whole grains and the beneﬁts of freshly-milled ﬂour. They will also be running a two-part recreational baking class called Baking with Whole Grains with classes meeting March 21 and March 28. See their website for more details, or to sign up.
The Cancer Wellness Center will be hosting an event in their demo kitchen and will be using social media to spread the word about Whole Grain Sampling Day.
The Cherokee Nation A-Mo Health Center will host a tasting and sampling event for their patients.
The Cherokee Nation Cooweescoowee Health Center will host a sampling event for patients in their outpatient healthcare clinic.
The Cherokee Nation Redbird Smith Health Center will incorporate a discussion of whole grain beneﬁts and Whole Grain Sampling Day activities into their celebration of National Nutrition Month.

Community Servings will be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day by promoting whole grains on social media.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the Consulate of Mexico in Boston will be hosting a lecture in Spanish about whole grains. This event will include samples of whole grain recipes, and will be open to the community.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, C&S Wholesale Grocers will be promoting whole grain choices to their customers.
For Whole Grain Sampling Day, Davidson College’s Dining Services will be featuring a special menu highlighting whole grain options.
Donald Payne Tech will be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day with a student taste testing event where students will have a chance to vote on which new whole grain recipes get incorporated into the menu rotation. Students will have a chance to learn about diﬀerent grains and take home handouts as well.

For Whole Grain Sampling Day, Dartmouth College will be posting whole grain information on their menu boards and electronic monitors. They will be featuring new oﬀerings on their salad bars and will include whole grain side dishes on their menus that day. Additionally, their Dietetic Interns will be distrubuting educational materials at tabling events around campus.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, the EAC Network will be teaching a 40-minute nutrition class focused on whole grains. Participants will learn to identify whole grain ingredients, how to cook them at home, and why whole grains are an important part of a healthy diet. Whole grain samples will also be available for participants to try.

The Boone, IA store (2300 Industrial Park Rd) will be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day by doing a segment on the news regarding the health beneﬁts of choosing whole grains, showing various whole grain products available at Fareway Stores.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, and in the days leading up to it, Flour Bakery will be promoting the WHOLEﬂour initiative they launched in 2018, which focuses on adding items to their menu that contain at least 50% whole grain.
FoodCorps is promoting Whole Grain Sampling Day to all of their service members through their weekly email newsletter, to encourage service members to plan whole-grain focused events at their sites.
For Whole Grain Sampling Day, George Mason University will be providing samples of whole grain dishes being oﬀered in the dining hall that day and directing students toward the stations where these menu items can be found. They will also be sharing fun facts about whole grains and passing out recipe cards.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, Georgia Institute of Technology will be hosting a cooking demo and sampling event on Thursday, March 28. They will be cooking a dish made with a blend of quinoa and brown rice and will be handing out whole grain product samples for students to take with them.
The Flourtown, PA store (1874 Bethlehem Pike) will host a special Whole Grain Sampling Day event with in-store samples of whole grain products and educational materials on the beneﬁts of whole grains.
The Grain Foods Foundation will be promoting Whole Grain Sampling Day on their social media platforms.

In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, Hamilton City Schools will oﬀer samples of popcorn and allow students to try diﬀerent ﬂavored toppings representing ﬂavors from around the world (ex. chipotle ﬂavoring for Mexico, bbq for the US, sour cream & onion for Germany, etc.). For Whole Grain Sampling Day, students in the Dietetic Technician program will be providing educational materials, whole grain samples and recipes to students, faculty and staﬀ at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida.

Hoya Hospitality at GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY
Georgetown’s Olive Branch location in their Leo O’Donovan Dining Hall will host a tasting of their brown rice and quinoa grain bowls for Whole Grain Sampling Day. They will also be asking students to vote on a new grain to be added to the rotation to add some variety and switch up the standard menu.

Kansas State University Housing & Dining Services will feature whole grain based recipes on various menu platforms throughout the day in celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day. They will use social media and signage to promote the event, and will create table tents with information about whole grains. The K-State radio station will advertise and educate about whole grains as well.
Kent State University will be getting an early start to their Whole Grain Sampling Day festivities by hosting a tabling event in one of their residential dining locations on Thursday, March 21 from 11:30-1:30. This event will include a Guess the Grain game, a Plinko Grains Game, and a sample of whole grain food items.

NourishKC operates the Kansas City Community Kitchen, where they serve a hot, nutritionally balanced lunch to between 300 and 500 food insecure individuals every weekday. They oﬀer three meal choices each day and on Whole Grain Sampling Day they will be featuring a diﬀerent whole grain in each option. They will put together recipes for each of the dishes, and will be sharing these on social media and getting them printed for distribution during service. They will also have tabletop displays with graphics and an overview of the health beneﬁts of whole grains.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the Culinary Studies Institute at Oakland Community College is putting together a special whole grain menu.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry will host a recipe demonstration on Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya made with brown rice. They will oﬀer samples of this to the clients in their waiting room, and the recipe and other whole grain materials will be available at their nutrition table.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, Oakwood Avenue Community School will be educating students on the importance and nutritional beneﬁts of whole grains during its weekly culinary program for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.
Oklahoma State University will be hosting an sampling event in celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day. Campus Registered Dietitians from University Health Services and University Dining Services will host a Nutrition Awareness table in the Student Union and share about the beneﬁts of whole grains, oﬀer samples of one of the whole grain salads oﬀered on campus, and hand out product samples.

The De Pere, WI store (1724 Lawrence Dr) will feature Whole Grain Sampling Day on their Instagram account and will be tying whole grains into their Head Over Meals campaign, a 100-day challenge aimed at helping guests and followers ﬁnd a renewed joy or newfound love in home cooking. During the week of 4/4, participants will be challenged to try a new whole grain and share how they’re accomplishing the challenge on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Spectrum Health, through their Healthier Communities initiative, will be hosting a whole grain class at a food pantry in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, March 26th, and getting an early start on their Whole Grain Sampling Day festivities.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, Success® is going to be posting on social media, using #SampleWholeGrains, and increasing consumer awareness of the event.
The SNAP-Ed Team at the Thurston County Food Bank in Olympia, WA will be hosting an event to celebrate Whole Grain Sampling Day. They will have whole grain items for their customers to take home and cook, plus samples of whole grain items in recipes that they can try.
Toufayan Bakery is excited to be a partner in supporting Whole Grain Sampling Day activities. They will be posting on social media and sharing a special recipe video showcasing whole grain products. They will also be partnering with inﬂuencers on social media that week to share additional whole grain recipes and information.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, Triad to Wellness will be hosting an Instagram giveaway (@triadtowellness) of whole grain products including sorghum and freekeh. They will be collaborating with @freekehfoods, @wondergrain, and @kapop_snacks. The giveaway will begin on March 25th and run through Whole Grain Sampling Day on March 27th.
For Whole Grain Sampling Day, Unity House in Troy, NY will be making a quinoa salad and sampling it on the serving line in their dining room. They will also be sampling brown rice and giving out recipes in their food pantry.
The University of Arizona’s Cooking on Campus program will feature a whole grain pasta salad recipe on Tuesday, March 26 in early celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day. The Cooking on Campus program, in which student instructors teach their fellow student participants how to prepare recipes from start to ﬁnish, is open to all University of Arizona students, with a maximum of 18 participants per class.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the PTC Culinary Arts department will host a lesson on whole grains in its Healthy Foods and Nutrition class. Their lunch service will also feature whole grains on the menu.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the University of Connecticut will be featuring a wide variety of whole grain dishes, including cranberry barley pilaf, edamame & quinoa salad, and a whole grain wheat ravioli.
For Whole Grain Sampling Day, Gator Dining at the University of Florida will host a “Guess the Grain” game and oﬀer samples of not-so-common whole grains.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the University of Iowa will be featuring a quinoa yogurt parfait.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the Univeristy of Michigan will highlight dishes containing whole grains in dining halls across campus. They will also coordinate a “Guess the Whole Grain” tabling event for students, with information about the history and beneﬁts of whole grains.
In early celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, University of Missouri Campus Dining Services will present a cooking class to students in their demo kitchen on March 19. Each recipe will feature a whole grain that students may not have tried before. This class will become a regular session in the University of Missouri’s Culinary Nutrition Series going forward.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the University of North Dakota will be preparing and sampling new/trending whole grain recipes at the cooking demonstration station at Wilkerson Commons. Students will recieve a copy of the recipe as well as some nutritional information and resources about the beneﬁts of whole grains.
The University of North Florida will be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day with an on-campus event. They expect about 200 students in attendence and will be oﬀering whole grain samples for students to try.
Students of the University of Pittsburgh’s Coordinated Master in Nutrition and Dietetics program will be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day and National Nutrition Month in conjunction with Vintage Senior Services, a senior center that oﬀers a multitude of programs promoting healthy aging. The students will be putting on a nutrition fair educating older adults on topics such as: whole grains/ﬁber, smart snacking, how to read nutrition labels, portion sizes, bone health, and more. The fair will include food samples/giveaways, posters, informational handouts, food demonstrations, and a documentary on heart-healthy aging.
For Whole Grain Sampling Day, the University of South Carolina’s Upstate Campus Dining Services team will be informing students about the health beneﬁts of whole grains and hosting a “Guess the Grain” event from 11am — 2pm in the CLC Cafe. Students will have the chance to take a blind taste test to try to see if they can guess which grain they are sampling for a chance to win prizes.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, USC will have a whole grain education table at the campus farmers market, with free food samples and a whole grain trivia game.
UVM will be holding a Guess the Grain event in the student center on Whole Grain Sampling Day, with free samples of several grain salads available. They will also mark whole grain menu items available in the dining halls with a whole grain icon so that students can easily identify whole grains on the menu.
The USA Rice Federation will be oﬀering a product giveaway on social media in celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day. They will highlight the beneﬁts of whole grain consumption through their social media posts that day and will select a few lucky followers to win an 8-cup aroma rice cooker and a sample of US-grown brown rice. For Whole Grain Sampling Day, Vallozzi’s Pittsburgh will have appetizer and entree specials featuring whole grains as used in traditional Italian cooking.

On Whole Grain Sampling Day, Washington State University will celebrate by featuring whole grain dishes in each of their three Dining Centers and passing out samples for students to try.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School will be hosting a sampling event during each of their lunch periods, introducing more than 725 middle school students to whole grains. Their 7th-grade Family and Consumer Sciences classes will also feature a lesson on whole grains that day.

The West Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is sponsoring an educational session reviewing whole grains, how to ﬁnd them locally, and how to prepare them in meals. The nationally-recognized registered dietitian nutritionist, Cindy Gay, will show dishes she made at home using a variety of cooking and baking techniques, and will demonstrate how to use a ﬂour mill. Attendees will be inspired to create dishes with new whole grain ingredients, and plan healthy plates with whole grains for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The 1.5 hour CEU session will conclude with a soup and salad meal.
In celebration of Whole Grain Sampling Day, the Wheat Foods Council will use social media to highlight whole grains and share information, recipes, cooking tips, articles, and infographics.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, Whittier Elementary students will be learning about whole grains and tasting a whole grain (gluten free) snack which qualiﬁes for the Whole Grain Stamp.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, the Woody Williams VA Medical Center will be setting up a display in their lobby, which includes samples and a board with basic information about whole grains. They will have educational resources on the table to hand out to the veterans, along with the samples. For their inpatient veterans, they design tray covers speciﬁc for Whole Grain Sampling Day. Their outlying VA Clinics also participate with education regarding the beneﬁts of whole grains.
Yale University will be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day with a table set up in the lobby of the Yale University Health Center. Participants will be able to sample whole grains and receive information about incorporating whole grains into their diet.
On Whole Grain Sampling Day, Yale Hospitality will oﬀer a poke bowl with a whole grain base in all 14 residential colleges. This bowl will feature customizable toppings and both a plant based and seafood protein option.
