As many of you know, the Whole Grains Council is located right in the heart of Boston, just blocks from Copley Square. Copley is home to the Boston Public Library, Old South Church, Trinity Church, John Hancock Tower and every year on the third Monday in April — Patriot’s Day — the Boston Marathon finish line. A day usually filled with happy cheers, pride, and admirable athleticism was marred with sadness and heartbreak.

In light of the Boston Marathon tragedy, we’ve decided to devote this week to highlighting some of the very positive things that are going on in Boston’s Back Bay. Today’s blog will feature just a sampling of the wonderful whole grain choices available within 10 blocks of the Boston offices of Oldways and the Whole Grains Council.

Piatinni, an office favorite, offers any of their pasta dishes with several different kinds of whole wheat noodles. The restaurant is located right on Newbury Street and is a wonderful option for both lunch and dinner.

Flour Bakery, a well known Boston hot spot, is famous for its decadent sticky buns but also offers a really innovative and delicious savory menu. The fresh baked whole wheat focaccia is a must on any of the bakery’s sandwiches, and the tofu quinoa salad is awesome too.

Snappy Sushi, also located on Newbury Street, makes all of their sushi with brown rice. They have an extensive menu, featuring creative rolls like the Boston Lobster Roll and the Tuna Gone Wild Roll.

Classic Boston restaurant Stephanie’s not only offers some of the best (and most coveted) outdoor seating on Newbury Street but also serves up a phenomenal duck dish, served with brown butter farro. Right across the street, uber hip Met Bar offers grilled salmon with a side of wheat berries. Also in the Back Bay, 29 Newbury has a Southwestern, customizable brown rice bowl.

So Bostonians and visitors alike, let’s get back out there and do what we do best: love and support our city, local restaurants and businesses. Stay strong Boston. (Mallory)
