It’s here! It’s here! The big day we’ve all been waiting for. Today is National Whole Grain Sampling Day. (True confessions: We like to sample whole grains any day, like the t-shirt here proclaims. That said, if we gotta pick one day to focus on — here it is!)
Always the first Wednesday in April, Whole Grain Sampling Day (WGSD) is bigger and better than ever this year. The last two years we commandeered an amphibious duckboat, but this year we decided we could extend our reach to more cities by joining up with partners. As a result, chains including Dunkin’ Donuts (bagels, not whole grain donuts!), California Pizza Kitchen, Denny’s, McDonald’s, Rubio’s, and Genghis Grill are promoting their whole grain choices. We even have a few food trucks taking part this year. Clover, in Boston, told us, “We have a ton of whole grain options, so this seems like a great fit.” And BonMe, also in Boston, will be sampling a brown rice bowl shooter.
Rather than rewrite everything that’s already elsewhere on our website, we’ll use today’s blog as a simple directory to all the great stuff going on.
A list of partners — restaurants, supermarkets, food companies and others — working with us.
Our Whole Grain Ambassador bloggers, helping us spread the word.
Our main Sampling Day page, with resources, graphics, and inspiration for everyone.
A Huffington Post article that explains what WGSD is all about.
Our Sampling Day video, which captures the excitement of this annual event.
Tell us how you’re celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day on Twitter (#samplewholegrains), on Facebook, or on the The Oldways Forum. We’d love to hear from you! (Cynthia)
